Architecture

comm.editsweb is a multi-tier application consisting of an application, a rendering and a data layer. The product itself is independent from the operating system and the underlying database: the application server can be hosted on any supported server operating system.

For the rendering process, which is responsible for content preview and publishing and hence works with Microsoft Office, the Windows operating system is needed. The rendering server can be installed as physical or virtual server.

The data layer can be deployed onto the application server or on a separate database server. However, for security reasons and an optimal performance of comm.editsweb, the physical separation of the database and the application tier is recommended.
