editsweb - VW Coaching

Based on our open-EIS platform the existing single-user application EDITS should evolve into a web-based system able to cope with the future technological market trends and growing customer requirements. This was accomplished in cooperation with Volkswagen Coaching GmbH.

Challenge
Aspects in relation to virtual collaboration, multilingualism and performance became more and more important due to rapid technological advances in the software industry. A huge challenge in this project was the union of these aspects by porting EDITS to the open-EIS platform and the integration of Microsoft Office to the Java world.

Solution
In the scope of this technological cooperation between VW Coaching and community4you the electronic data base and information system EDITS, which was developed for the creation of documents and seminar materials, was migrated to the distributed and multi-tier Java architecture of open-EIS and extended with additional system and user features for the standardized, transparent and redundance-free creation and management of documents and presentations.

As the new EDITS is based on the distributed, service-oriented and multi-tier Java architecture of open-EIS, no software installation on the client side is required. The client itself starts the software application directly from the server. Therefore software update problems as well as configuration issues are structurally avoided. Thanks to the multilayered open-EIS platform, the original EDITS experienced a complete redesign. The clear concern separation between database, business logic and interface layer provides platform and database independence, high performance and scalability as well as an optimal integration in pre-existing system environments.
