Modern fleets are no longer viable without comprehensive digitisation
The federal broadband office of the Federal Ministry of Transport and Digital Infrastructure invited Uwe Bauch, the president of the board of the community4you AG, to an interview for the information campaign "Broadband@Mittelstand".
community4you AG specialises in software solutions for fleet and leasing management. The Chemnitz-based company is one of the most innovative employers in the region and ideally positioned for the digital future in this field. The federal government's broadband office spoke with Uwe Bauch, one of the two company founders, about the importance of digitisation in the software and logistics sector.

Broadband Bureau of the Confederation: What does digitisation mean for your company?
Uwe Bauch: Our company develops software for fleet and leasing management. Modern fleets are no longer viable without comprehensive digitisation, in which all processes are optimised through the use of innovative technologies, both in small and large vehicles. The digital transformation in preparation for a new industrial age, which we now call Industry 4.0, has many facets. It is not only one of the most important strategic future topics for us, which we have devoted ourselves to as a company since 2001, without being able to assess the future impact. Nevertheless, this great challenge has offered us excellent opportunities to develop unique and innovative products and to pull ahead of our competitors.
Broadband Bureau of the Confederation: Which processes have been digitised in your company?
Uwe Bauch: For 16 years, our company has been on a very good and above all strategic path. As community4you, we have integrated the digitisation into our software products for fleet, leasing and trade fair management as well as into our company itself. This applies to company structures in a high-tech company as well as development, business and work processes. We have certainly worked together with our customers to digitise and are now proud of what has been achieved. Nevertheless, the speed of change has cost us some efforts.
Broadband Bureau of the Confederation: What is so interesting about your product?
Uwe Bauch: I would like to look back in our company's history: shortly after its founding in 2001, we have been dealing with the design and development of a platform, which today serves under the name "open-EIS" as an implementation basis for all software products of community4you AG. The interesting thing about this integration platform is that we can control and optimise all processes in a fully digitised company - regardless of the industry.
There are ERP products for fleet and leasing management, vehicle configuration and retrieval, and a trade fair and a knowledge management system that we use for our internal processes even in our current product portfolio. This is precisely where we see the success and future of community4you AG: A highly flexible and sophisticated integration platform based on modular and innovative software systems that make it easier for our customers to follow the path of digital transformation successful.

Broadband office of the Confederation: Which customers do you reach in the course of digitisation?
Uwe Bauch: Customers - rightly - are becoming more and more demanding nowadays. They expect tailor-made products, which precisely reflect their business processes and optimise them. In addition, they want a full service and personalised services across all communication channels. We react to this with our products as well as with our digitised customer management. Just as we provide the customer with fully digital business process management, we do so also internally at community4you AG and can thus respond as best as possible to customer requirements, from purchasing through service to support. This is also the reason for the future of Industry 4.0 and the ever-accelerated digitisation. Interlinked and cross-company, digitised processes will characterise many companies and entire industries in the coming years.
Broadband Bureau of the Confederation: Why is broadband expansion so important in Germany?
Uwe Bauch: Broadband expansion is a foundation for both us and our customers. Software in a cloud, software as a service and cross-company business processes require a permanent and highly available communications infrastructure. It represents the lifeblood of Industry 4.0. Just as badly developed traffic routes prevent a logistics service provider from delivering its products to a customer in time, poorly developed and unreliable networks delay the digital communication, which is essential for all modern companies. Especially in the logistics sector, where we are particularly active, it will be essential in the near future to outsource business-relevant processes to the users' mobile devices, which requires high-availability and broadband network infrastructure in both the fixed and mobile sectors.
