Fleet Trends in 2020
„Flottenmanagement“ magazine looks ahead on fleetmanagement-trends in 2020

The editorial department at „Flottenmanagement“ magazine delves into a professional summary in the 06/2019 issue under the title "Up to a new era". Aside from relevant developments for fleet management in 2019, the focus is on the perspectives of industry experts in 2020.
What has happened in fleet management 2019?
„In the year just ended, a new means of transport emerged, especially in urban areas. The launching of e-scooters was quite arguable and still stirring controversy today,“ says the magazine. Furthermore, the authors also addressed the highly controversial introduction of the car toll. „The CSU prestige project has now been completely knocked down by transport ministers Ramsauer and Dobrindt together with minister Scheuer in the third ministerial generation. The result of long-lasting negotiations: Rejection of the plans by the European Court of Justice and claims for damages from the toll operators.“, it is written.
But there have also been positive headlines. For example, the expansion of electro mobility was stepped up further. Volkswagen introduced the ID.3 at the IAA in Frankfurt and is thus attempting to redefine the Volkswagen. In addition to the plethora of new electric cars, the introduction of the 0.5 percent tax on the non-cash benefit for electric vehicles and plug-in hybrids caused increased demand to rise. Reinhard Zirpel, President of the Association of International Motor Vehicle Manufacturers (VDIK), is quoted as follows: „This will make electric cars even more attractive as company cars. This is an important signal to potential e-car buyers. Anyone who buys an electric vehicle as a company car in the next ten years will pay significantly less tax for it than for a car with a conventional engine.“
What changes must fleet managers prepare for in 2020?
Some new innovations are on the annual agenda besides the major climate change package. For example, the election of the new president for the German Association of the Automotive Industry will be held after Bernhard Mattes had resigned from his position in 2019. Most probably, 2020 will be the year of Brexit and will also bring new starting points for the automotive industry and fleet management. On March 18 and 19, „Flotte! Der Branchentreff“ will be staged again in the Düsseldorf exhibition hall. „Although all best-ever records had already been broken at the previous exhibition with 240 exhibitors and around 3,200 visitors, the new version of the industry's class reunion will be able to grow once again,“ claims the magazine. The motivation for this, continues the article, will also be the new topics and the vehicle fleet industry which will be the focus of the trade fair: electric mobility, e-bikes, cargo bikes and other types of micromobility.
In the magazine, readers will find evaluations by selected industry experts on the developments and challenges in the fleet market in this coming year. Among the interviewees was also the chairman of the management board of community4you AG Uwe Bauch.

New mobility strategies are becoming increasingly important, as the change in mobility unfolds a number of new fields of action: Combination of short-term rentals with car sharing, e-bikes, e-scooters, electric vehicles and automated driving. With an accelerating trend, companies are shifting their IT landscape to the cloud. This will remain the same in the coming year. Our comm.fleet product line combines intelligent fleet apps and smart technology in hybrid and multi-cloud environments.
